Roof Ventilation Upgrades: Why They Matter

Roof ventilation rarely gets much attention, but poor ventilation is behind a surprising number of roof problems that get blamed on other causes.

What ventilation actually prevents

Proper airflow through a roof space prevents condensation building up on the underside of the roof covering and on structural timber, which over time can cause rot and damage that has nothing to do with an external leak.

Common signs of poor ventilation

Damp timber in the loft, mould on the underside of roofing felt or membrane, and a persistently musty smell in the loft space are all signs ventilation isn't doing its job.

Upgrading ventilation during a re-roof

A re-roof is a natural point to add or improve ridge vents, soffit vents or tile vents, since the roof covering is already off.

Balancing insulation and ventilation

Modern insulation upgrades need to be designed alongside adequate ventilation — insulating without addressing airflow can actually make condensation problems worse, not better.

We cover new build and re-roofing projects throughout Chester, Crewe, Warrington, Northwich, Winsford, Macclesfield, Knutsford, Wilmslow and across the rest of Cheshire and the Wirral. Our team can assess whether your roof's ventilation needs upgrading, particularly if you're also improving insulation.
